Getting to Know Finisher, Derick Johnson

At Consensus, our company culture is driven by the talented individuals who work here. We have created the employee spotlight series to highlight our team members who are working hard to make the Consensus experience a truly outstanding one.

This month we talked with Finisher, Derick Johnson. With a passion for building strong relationships and finding new and creative ways to be more efficient, we uncovered why he loves working in the medical device industry and some of his favorite things about Consensus.

Hometown?

I am from Folsom, California.

What is your role at Consensus?

I am the plastics finisher and lap operator.

How long have you been with Consensus?

I have been with Consensus for 10 years.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is the challenge of trying to beat my previous metrics. I like to turn my work into a game and make it my mission to try to put out more parts at a higher quality than I did last time. I really enjoy finding little ways to be more efficient and achieve my goals.

What has been your favorite project since you started working here?

My favorite project has been working with the lap finisher. I have loved learning how to operate the machine and thinking of ways to use it more efficiently. I like that it is a new challenge for me and I am required to think outside of the box.

What is your favorite thing about working in the orthopedic industry?

My favorite thing about working in the orthopedic industry is everyone I work with. I have made great relationships with all the people who work here at Consensus and it truly makes coming to work each day that much more enjoyable.

What has been one of your proudest moments working at Consensus?

One of my proudest moments at Consensus was doubling our output a couple of years ago. I am also proud of encouraging another Consensus employee to join our team as he has been doing wonderful work. I’m glad I was able to play a part in encouraging him to come onboard.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

My favorite things to do when I am not working include music, going to the gym and spending as much time with my family as possible. If I can incorporate any combination or all three of those things into the same situation, I am truly at my happiest.

What Inspires you?

My father along with all the patriarchs in my family inspires me. I was lucky enough to have several positive male role models in my life and they taught me about the importance of a strong work ethic and honor code. They inspire me to serve as that same role model to my stepson, so I am doing my best to pass that on to him as well.

If you could pick a superpower what would it be?

I would choose to be Superman, but with a cooler costume.
